Teeth extraction

Removal (tearing) of teeth, as patients call this procedure, or extraction of teeth (extraction from lat. extraho - extract) is a surgical operation in dentistry to extract a tooth from a dental alveoli.

iStomatolog tries to preserve all the patient’s teeth, even those that must be removed according to the patients themselves. But, sometimes, nevertheless, you have to sacrifice a tooth and carry out its extraction.

When is it necessary to remove a tooth?

It is conditionally possible to divide tooth extraction, like any surgical operation, into emergency (as quickly as possible to exclude the possibility of the spread of the infection process in the body) and remote or planned.

Emergency reasons for tooth extraction include various inflammatory diseases that can lead to serious purulent infections (phlegmon, mediastinitis), transverse and longitudinal root fractures, periodontal tissue diseases (when the teeth themselves fall out of the oral cavity), etc.

To planned - unsuccessful endodontic treatment (impossibility of passage of the tooth canals), according to orthopedic or orthodontic indications (when the tooth does not grow in the arch and interferes with the rational prosthetics of the dentition or atypical arrangement of “wisdom” teeth).

These items can be considered indications for tooth extraction.

There are no relative contraindications; there are delayed planned removals. This is when at the moment the patient has an infectious or cardiovascular disease, decreased blood coagulability (that is, takes medications to prevent high blood pressure), pregnancy at an early or final stage, the removal of milk teeth is also contraindicated in children if there are no permanent rudiments.

In order for tooth extraction to go smoothly and painlessly, you must strictly adhere to the doctor's recommendations.

When is the decision to remove the tooth made?

Patient complaints and collection of preliminary history allows us to move on to the next step - X-ray diagnostics. We recommend using 3D-diagnostics (CT) to give an accurate justification of whether a tooth needs to be removed or not and / or to determine anatomical structures and access to the tooth so that the removal is less traumatic for the patient.

If, nevertheless, a decision is made to remove the tooth, then an anamnesis is filled out, in which the patient indicates all of his concomitant diseases and, after studying by the doctor, an anesthetic (allergy test) is manipulated to exclude or prevent allergic reactions.

After this, local anesthesia or general (anesthesia) is performed and, in fact, the extraction itself.

Types of tooth extraction can be divided into:

Typical. When we use the classic tools - elevators, tongs)

Atypical. When the tooth is atypical (incorrect) and an additional special tool is used (needle holders, spacers, luxuators, cutters, etc.), materials (bone substitute, suture material), equipment (tips or ultrasonic scalpels for tooth extraction).

At any removal, iStomatolog almost always uses A-PRF (platelet-rich plasma (synonyms: platelet-rich plasma, platelet concentrate, platelet gel), which allows you to increase the healing rate of the tooth well.

What problems can be after tooth extraction?

As a rule, when a complete medical history is collected and the patient made the necessary CT scan, complications are minimized. Sometimes there are alveolitis (inflammation of the tooth cavity), long and heavy bleeding, numbness of the chin, tongue, lips, jaw fractures, dislocations of teeth, etc.

Basic recommendations for the healing period

After removal, we recommend that you refrain from physical activity for several days, exclude the sauna, hot bath, hypothermia and prescribe (with complex extractions) the medications prescribed by the doctor in the clinic.

What to do after tooth extraction?

After tooth extraction, we recommend prosthetics or implantation options. If the patient loses the front tooth, as a rule we install a temporary prosthesis for the rehabilitation period, thereby reducing the patient’s aesthetic discomfort.
