What is artistic restoration?
Artistic restoration is a complex of dental techniques used to correct the shape and color of teeth and model a beautiful smile. Correction is indicated in the presence of visually noticeable defects - acquired or natural.
Correction of flaws using composite materials is an alternative to indirect restoration, which involves the installation of crowns, ceramic inlays/onlays, and veneers. The method of artistic correction is chosen by the dentist after a diagnostic examination.
A professionally performed artistic correction of teeth returns a beautiful smile and, accordingly, external attractiveness to the patient. Restored teeth look natural, they do not attract the attention of others, they have sufficient strength, and do not create a feeling of discomfort.
If direct restoration (using filling materials) can lead to a decrease in chewing function and/or increased tooth fragility, the dentist chooses one of the methods of indirect restoration.
At the iStomatolog clinic, aesthetic restoration of teeth is carried out using high-tech filling materials, as well as by applying special pigments.
Types of materials used for artistic restoration of teeth
The iStomatolog center, located on Krakiwska Street in Kyiv, uses materials from the Japanese brand Tokuyama Dental and American manufacturer Parkell for artistic correction of teeth.
The Japanese company Tokuyama Dental, a leader in the development of high-tech, new generation filling materials, produces:
- composite materials with submicron fillers for the restoration of front teeth;
- flowable light-cured pigments for creating enamel shades in direct and indirect restorations;
- light-cured, radiopaque composite compositions designed for tooth restorations in the smile zone;
- chameleon effect composites;
- dental adhesive fluoride-releasing systems.
The use of Tokuyama materials guarantees the effectiveness of the treatment, superior aesthetic results, and long-term maintenance.
Parkell is a provider of the best filling materials with nano-filling technologies. Materials from this American brand are characterized by minimal shrinkage, high compressive and tensile strength, and absolute biological compatibility with dental tissues, which allows the composition to be used in restorations with a post.
Our dental center uses only original certified materials from reputable brands, which largely determines the unprecedented quality level of treatment and restoration.
Stages of aesthetic dental restoration at iStomatolog
2D and 3D diagnosis of the condition of the teeth is the main preparatory stage for restoration, providing the basic foundation for selecting the dental methodology. Using the latest equipment, iStomatolog's doctors choose the optimal diagnostic method in 2D or 3D format.
Approximately 60% of dental structures are hidden beneath soft tissues and bone tissue, and it is necessary to obtain as much information as possible about their condition to apply a justified method of treatment. The doctor selects the dental diagnostic method (2D or 3D imaging) based on medical indications and existing protocols.
2D diagnosis is an X-ray image that clearly shows:
- dental and jaw injuries;
- areas of inflammation;
- cysts, abscesses, granulomas, and other neoplasms;
- pathologies of the development of the dentofacial system.
3D diagnosis is a three-dimensional image obtained from a computer tomograph. There are no distortions or superimpositions of fragments of tissues of different densities in the 3D image. The picture can be viewed from different angles in three projections, allowing for a detailed study of the condition of the dental tissues.
After a visual examination and diagnostic testing, the doctor selects the method of artistic restoration, discusses key points with the patient, and begins work after obtaining their consent.
Practical stages of artistic restoration
- Anesthesia (effective last generation anesthetic)
- Preparation for restoration (cleaning, selection of material shade, isolation of the working area)
- Direct restoration of teeth (if necessary, installation of a pin, then applying a layer-by-layer technique for applying filling material, cured under UV rays)
- Polishing.
How is the quality of artistic tooth restoration assessed?
- degree of conformity with the shape and color of the natural tooth;
- visibility of the border between the tooth tissue and the restorative material (if the restoration is properly performed, the boundary line is not visible);
- condition of the gum in the area of the correction (the gum should be healthy, without injury or swelling);
- surface structure of the restored tooth (a light shine, similar to natural enamel, indicates good quality);
- patient perception of their smile (the result should meet the client's expectations and correspond to their aesthetic preferences).
In simpler terms, if all the teeth in the smile zone look natural and aesthetic, and those around cannot tell which one has undergone restoration, then the work has been done well.
Errors during correction can be identified if the patient experiences pain while chewing, has a sharp reaction to thermal stimuli (cold, heat), experiences discomfort in the gum area, or perceives the tooth as a foreign object.
Other signs of poor quality artistic restoration include changes in tooth color over time, the appearance of a contour line between natural and artificial tissues, disruption of diction, and a shift in the smile. If any of these signs are present, it is essential to see a dentist promptly to determine the cause of the symptoms and undergo appropriate treatment.
In our high-tech clinic, where every stage of treatment is visually monitored, innovative materials and techniques are used, and the role of human factors is minimized, cases of medical incompetence are excluded.

FAQ
Reviews
