Correction of bite in adults and children
Specialists of the iStomatolog clinic make their efforts, knowledge and experience in order to make the smiles of patients aesthetic. We strive to make the treatment process as convenient as possible for our patients; an absolutely individual approach is applied to each patient, which allows creating an effective treatment plan that matches the patient's lifestyle.
Orthodontic treatment
At iStomatolog we offer both braces and removable devices (plates). Each type of treatment that we offer has its own individual advantages. In orthodontic appliances and braces, various materials are used to align the teeth, including metal, ceramics, composites and plastic. Depending on the treatment chosen, the devices can be attached to the teeth or removable.
How long does orthodontic treatment last?
The duration of treatment depends on the degree of complexity of the patient’s orthodontic problem and the treatment plan chosen. Treatment can take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years, although most patients are treated for 18-24 months. During the treatment process, it is extremely important to strictly follow the doctor’s instructions and the treatment plan.
Types of Dental Braces
Metal braces
Metal braces made of high quality stainless steel. They are fixed to the teeth using a special composite and are bonded to each other using a metal arc.
Ceramic (transparent) braces
Ceramic braces, also called transparent braces, are made of transparent materials that are less visible on the teeth. For this reason, adolescents, as well as adult patients who want to make the presence of the bracket system as inconspicuous as possible, prefer to install ceramics. However, it should be remembered that ceramic bracket systems require a bit more attention to oral hygiene.
Early orthodontic treatment for children
- What is the difference between early orthodontic treatment for children and conventional orthodontic treatment?
- Why might a child need early treatment?
- How will early treatment benefit the baby in the long run?
These are just some of the questions regarding the topic of early orthodontic treatment for children. The European Association of Orthodontists recommends that children consult a doctor from the age of seven. At this stage, the specialist will be able to understand whether the child will continue to need orthodontic treatment.
Early treatment (also known as “first phase”) usually begins at the age of eight or nine years. The "second phase" begins at the age of 11 years and older. The goal of early treatment is to stimulate jaw growth and correct some occlusion problems. Early treatment also helps make room for permanent teeth, reducing the chance of future removal.
How to determine if your child needs early orthodontic treatment?
Indications for treatment at the orthodontist are:
- Early or late loss of milk teeth (the child usually begins to lose teeth at the age of about five years, and all permanent teeth should erupt at the age of about 13 years)
- Difficulty chewing or biting
- Mouth breathing
- If the baby continues to suck the thumb after five years
- Sound Pronunciation Issues
- Protruding teeth (upper and lower teeth extend apart)
- Teeth that do not converge normally
- Displacement of the jaw when opening and closing the mouth (cross bites)
- Crowding of the front teeth
What causes orthodontic problems and how will early treatment benefit the baby?
Orthodontic problems, such as:
- crowding of teeth
- too much space between the teeth
- problems with jaw growth
- protrusion of teeth and crowding of teeth,
can be inherited from parents, caused by early loss of baby teeth or thumb sucking habits. Most children lose all their baby teeth by the age of 13, and by the end of adolescence, the jaw bones harden and stop growing.
Adult orthodontic procedures often take longer and may include tooth extraction or surgery. Getting early orthodontic treatment in childhood can help prevent the need for orthodontics in adulthood, leaving little room for future removal or surgery.
If your child is seven to eight years old and has the above indications for orthodontic treatment or if your family dentist referred you to an orthodontist, please contact us and make an appointment. Our team will conduct an initial examination of your child and offer the best treatment plan for your existing problem.

Reviews about iStomatolog
