Treatment of teeth without drilling
The treatment of tooth decay without drilling is possible, but it makes sense in situations where there is no defect in the tooth tissue, that is, its anatomical integrity is preserved. The following methods have proven to be most effective:
- ozone treatment
- laser treatment
- tooth fluoridation
- remineralization therapy
All of these methods can be used either independently or in combination with each other. The general principles of treating tooth decay without drilling are:
- removal of softened carious tooth tissues:
- sterilization of the tooth surface:
- stimulation of the tooth's own protective forces.
The ozone therapy method is based on sterilizing the carious surface using ozone, which is generated by the HealOzone apparatus and delivered to the tooth surface under artificially created vacuum. Afterward, a reducing solution is applied to restore the damaged tooth structure. The procedure should be performed twice with a 14-day interval. Subsequently, it is recommended to repeat it once for prevention after professional hygiene, which means once every 6 months.
The laser treatment method is based on sterilizing the carious surface while simultaneously sealing the openings of the dentinal tubules. This is achieved because the laser melts the tooth surface upon contact. As a result, the laser "kills" all microorganisms in the carious tissues and protects them from re-infection.
It is recommended to perform this procedure once every 6 months after professional oral hygiene. Fluoridation and remineralization have a similar effect - they prevent further decay of the tooth by restoring its damaged structure. They are most effective at the stage of a spot.
How tooth treatment without drilling is performed:
- Cleaning the tooth surface from tartar and plaque
- Determining the depth of the carious process using the KaVo Diagnodent device
- Treatment with ozone or laser
- If necessary, additional remineralizing therapy
- Recommendations for home care.
Important! None of these methods are capable of restoring the lost part of the tooth. In case of advanced carious process, tooth treatment using filling, inlays, or crowns is recommended.
